Bill Volckening replied to Stefen Brock (MrQuiltertn)'s discussion Being accepted as a quilter in a woman's worldI haven't had any problems when shopping in quilt/fabric stores, but i do most of my shopping online. I took a class at a local church and of the dozen or so women, mostly middle aged, ,like myself, only a few were friendly and helpful, while the majority either ignored me or acted as if i had the plague. Wasn't much fun. I seem to be able to learn on my own . I subscribe to many quilting magazines and watch quilting demos on YouTube for most of my education. If i were looked down on at a shop, i would make sure they heard about it and explain that I wouldn't be back in to spend any money. lol Jim
Jimmie S said… I joined a quilt guild some yrs ago where I live(Nashville, TN) I was so disillusioned by the negative treatment -I vowed to never return and to date still have not. However, I didn't let the negative cause me to stop quilting. I don't frequent quilt shops much, since the internet is a good way to get supplies I need much cheaper. I'm also a handquilter -so many times people say why handquilt? -I say "Why not?!"
