Hi Guys, do you remember a few weeks ago my posting about hosting a tour to Ireland with Steven Lennert?

http://www.iqfoi.com/tours/steven_paul.html

Introducing Myself

I am new here. I am originally from Vancouver but now I live in a small village in mountains in Japan where I have a small silk and indigo farm. I reel the cocoons and weave material on old Japanese looms and using old tools. I have been growing indigo for almost twenty years and always have a vat going. I have made some quilts with traditional Japanese textiles and with scraps of indigo I have dyed myself. I want to work more on  designing stencils and using them to dye cloth that will…

Crumb blocks

Anyone make crumb blocks from their scraps? Make enough crumb blocks to make a quilt? Got any pictures?

I have a bin of triangles, cuttings, and strips of asian fabrics that I decided this week to try and make some crumb blocks, or maybe a mile-a-minute blocks. My problem is I have some 3" - 5" pieces that have a motif I want to keep - a flower, a bird, ... So my blocks are not square, and they are getting large, like rectangles. Not sure how I am going to put these together,…

Don't throw that away!!! It's heartbreaking.

Ok.  Maybe this blog is more of vent, but I have just saved 2 quilt tops and 2 sets of orphan blocks and working on more.

Can you believe that someone at a garage sale gave me a king size quilt top of bow ties, ALL HAND PIECED? Apparently his grandmother made them and he said, Take 'em I have no use for them. I showed the pieces to a quilter and my quilting friends and we have all concluded that it would have taken 3 years…

newest project

Trying my hand at a "stack n' whack". I have completed 3 squares so far.  Anxious to complete a quilt. Want to try my hand at actually free-hand quilting. Does anyone know or have any experience with John Flynn's frame system? (flynnquilt.com)

My Quip - Cathedral Windows Design - Tetrishead

Well I’m working on the new design and specifications of our first Cathedral Window quilt/wall hanging – Tetrishead.

At times music inspires me to create in fabric that which I would like to convey. I have always been particular to the sounds and ambiences of the Cello. I stumbled upon Zoë Keating, originally from Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and her composition, Tetrishead. Her music is as stated at Stuck Between Stations “works well in the foreground as it does in the… Continue

Jammers

I need to come up with a new way of storing my ever growing collection of Aurifil  thread.  Don't you love how Aurifil sews like butter?  I have tried many types of storage cases and none of them have worked for me.  My father made me a thread holder that has spindles and I can store the thread and bobbin together on it, but it's always getting dusty.  I spent more time trying to get the dust off the thread than I was quilting it seems.

I have tried the Art Bin thread storage boxes… Continue
